Instructions
for pump removal for replacement or servicing
(Read all
before starting)
Parts required: WD40, 10mm socket wrench or 10mm spanner,
star screwdriver, 4mm Allen key, hammer.
- In advance of removal, liberally apply WD40 to top of
pump shaft where it meets the seat. (Preferably a few days before.)
- The easy method (if it works) is to use two people
either side of the chair. Both stand on the chair floor base and rock and lift
chair at the same time. If the joint is not seized, the chair should lift off.
If it does, set the chair down on its back on a soft surface.
Continue from point 5 and ignore point 6.
- If this method did not work, put the chair onto its back
on an old carpet or other soft surface.
- WD40 the joint again.
- Remove the four nuts under the pump base using a 10mm
socket wrench or spanner.
- Wiggle the pump up/down/left/right and remove pump from
chair.
- When removed, stand pump on level surface.
- Remove small star screw from top of plastic/chrome pump
cover and remove cover.
- If checking oil level this can now be
done by removing the flat low-profile 20mm hex bolt near top of pump body on
the side.
- The pump can now be opened for
servicing by a qualified person.
- To replace the pump follow steps 12
to 19.
- Using a 4mm Allen key, remove the two grub screws at
either side of foot pedal where it joins the pump. Remove foot pedal.
- Remove locating pin from top of shaft. Do this by
inserting a 6mm bolt into the hole behind the pin and hammer out the pin from
the inside.
- Transfer the locating pin, foot pedal, grub screws and
chrome cover to new pump. Do not over-tighten screws.
- Fit pump to chair base and fit the 4 nuts. Do not
over-tighten.
- Set the chair base on solid ground with pump shaft
pointing up.
- Using 2-3 people, set the chair onto the pump shaft.
(Get third person to guide chair onto shaft and ensure locating pin fits into
slot in seat base.) Watch fingers do not get nipped.
- Pump the chair up half way a few times and release
before pumping to full height.
- Place faulty pump in packing case and return same.
